Copps, Pick 'n Save & Roundy's Foundation Team Up with Lions Clubs to Feed Dane County Families
Food Drive Will Benefit the Community Action Coalition
Madison, April 9, 2010 - Copps, Pick 'n Save and the Roundy's Foundation are teaming up with Madison-area Lions and Lioness Clubs to combat hunger. During the week of April 12 - 16, the organizations will hold a week-long food drive at all Copps and Pick 'n Save stores in Dane County, encouraging customers to donate non-perishable food items to benefit the Community Action Coalition (CAC). Barrels will be available in 14 stores, and customers can choose to donate individual food items or purchase already assembled bags of food valued at $5 and $10. On the final day of the drive, Friday, April 16, Lions, Lioness & Roundy's Gives Back volunteers will be on hand at each store from 9 a.m. - 7 p.m. to collect monetary donations for the CAC and to provide information about hunger relief.
The week-long food drive coincides with Roundy's Foundation's bi-annual, week-long food tour to help food pantries in the areas Roundy's grocery stores serve. Entitled Roundy's Foundation: Focused on Feeding Families, the tour will visit 13 communities and donate more than $225,000 in food and money to 50 food pantries in five days. Each pantry will receive nearly 3,000 pounds of food valued at approximately $4,000 in addition to a $500 check to purchase perishable food items. The tour will stop in the following cities: Plymouth, Manitowoc, Green Bay, Menomonee Falls, Sussex, Milwaukee, Minneapolis, Racine, Kenosha, Burlington, Muskego, Janesville and Sun Prairie.
The Sun Prairie visit will take place on Friday, April 16, at 3 p.m. at Copps, 2538 Ironwood Drive. The Roundy's Foundation will be delivering food to donate to the following six Dane County food pantries: Sun Prairie Food Pantry, Bread of Life Food Pantry, St. Stephen's Food Pantry, Centro Hispano, St. Paul Food Pantry and the Salvation Army of Dane County. The food tour has been going on since fall of 2006. The Roundy's Foundation gives a special thanks to Kobussen Buses for donating the bus and driver to the tour's efforts.
