FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Roundy's and BloodCenter of Wisconsin Join Forces This Thanksgiving
Annual Thanks for Giving Campaign asks you to Help Support Local Patients and Food Banks
Milwaukee, November 3, 2008 - The current state of the economy has had a significant impact on everyone - blood donations are down and the lines at food pantries are growing. Blood donors can help local patients while also helping a local family have a better holiday.
BloodCenter of Wisconsin's Thanks for Giving campaign offers donors the opportunity to give back to the community in another way. For every 20 donors that donate with BloodCenter of Wisconsin from November 10-22, Roundy's and Pick 'n Save will donate a turkey to Hunger Task Force and several other food banks throughout Wisconsin. Visits to food pantries have greatly increased during the last two months, so BloodCenter's goal is to distribute 500 turkeys to Wisconsin families.
Anyone who is at least 17 years old (16-year-olds may donate with parental consent), weighs a minimum of 110 lbs. and is in generally good health can donate blood. The entire process takes about an hour and all blood types are needed. Donors should bring a photo ID. For more information or to schedule an appointment to donate call 1-877-BE-A-HERO or visit www.bcw.edu.
