Roundy's Supermarkets, Inc. Announces Expansion Into Chicagoland

Growth in Chicago expected to employ approximately 2,000 within three years

Milwaukee, February 12, 2007 -
Roundy's Supermarkets, Inc., a $4 billion company and one of the Midwest's oldest and largest grocers, today announced it has agreed to open a new store at the New City YMCA site, located at 1515 North Halsted in Chicago. It is intended to be one of many stores the grocery chain will open over the next three years in the Chicago area, bringing an anticipated 2,000 jobs to the city.

"Our expansion into Chicago marks an extremely positive time in our company's history," said Robert Mariano, chairman and chief exectuive officer of Roundy's. "As we continue to grow in Wisconsin and Minnesota, we recognize an opportunity to expand into the Chicago market to fill a need for more unique stores."

The full-size store will be about 80,000 sq. ft. on two floors and will offer the customer a unique and exciting shopping experience, focusing on fresh offerings in produce, meat and seafood, bakery and deli. In addition, a wide selection of prepared foods for breakfast, lunch and dinner, natural and organic products and homeopathic remedies will also be available. The store will offer a wine and spirits department and pharmacy and will likely include a local neighborhood bank.

"Roundy's will no doubt demonstrate its dedication to the City's economic well-being," said Mariano. "We're well equipped to serve the shopping needs of the people of the City of Chicago."

Additionally, the grocer's new state-of-the-art, 1.1 million square-foot distribution center, located in Oconomowoc, Wis., is ideally located to serve the Chicago metropolitan area.

As the former president and CEO of Dominick's Supermarkets, Robert Mariano was responsible for the launch of the highly successful 'Fresh Stores' in the late '90s - a new concept in grocery retailing at the time. Using this knowledge, Mariano asked a number of former Dominick's colleagues who played an integral role in the 'Fresh Store' concept to be a part of his vision - providing customers with an exciting, unique and superior shopping experience.
